Hope… and hurdles…
It was these two words that inspired the launch of a little bit of HOPE. And believe it or not, that was now ten years ago! We would like to invite you to join us in celebrating ten years of seeing hurdles overcome, and of nurturing hope, in the Butaleja District of Uganda.
But first, THANK YOU. None of this would have been possible without your generous support, and many of you have been giving generously since the beginning.
Over the next few months, we will be looking back at the past ten years and looking forward to the next ten. We will be sharing photos, stories, and statistics, as we consider the lives that have been changed and all that still needs to change.
Over the past ten years more than 6,000 girls have been taught how to make reusable sanitary towels. We’ve repaired 91 boreholes and trained 89 apprentices. We’ve built homes for 20 widows and rebuilt 30 homes after the storms that hit the area in 2014 and 2015. And a maternity bed we purchased for Busolwe Community Hospital in 2015 has been used by three women every day since!
It began with hope. And hurdles.
What stood out to us in 2011 was how much hope there was in Uganda! There were signs of poverty and injustice everywhere, yet people were so full of hope. It was both captivating and contagious.
But what also stood out to us were the number of hurdles that existed. Hurdles that stopped people achieving what they wanted to; that were preventing people from reaching their full potential. Like the pupils who had attended school all year but couldn’t sit their end-of-year exams to progress to the next grade, simply because their parents couldn’t afford to buy them a uniform.
a little bit of HOPE was launched to enable people to overcome hurdles like this. And it’s also where the name came from, as we realised that many of these hurdles could be cleared with just a little assistance.
We would love you to celebrate our 10th Birthday with us! Here are some ways you can join us…
We would like to invite you to a special evening we’ll be hosting on Wednesday 17th November to celebrate our 10th birthday. It will be held on Zoom, and begin at 8pm. Some of the Ugandan staff will be joining us, and we’d love you to be there too. Book your ticket here.
Would you donate to our 10th Birthday celebration fund? We are looking to raise £10,000 to accelerate our work into the next decade of making a difference in the lives of people in Butaleja. Donate here.
We are so grateful for the support that many churches give to a little bit of HOPE. If you would like to invite one of the trustees to speak at your church – either a 10-minute slot, or a whole service take-over, let us know. We’d love to come and share with you.
Thank you so much for your support over the past ten years – we look forward to celebrating with you in the months to come.
